Do What You Do Best
Are You Doing What You Do Best?
Or are you a micro-manager?
My client Gill was the classic delegator; this was his mantra. He went from building medical equipment containers to building the best mobile medical vehicles in the world! How did he do it? He did what he did best and delegated the rest! Are doing what you do best?
Delegate with the intention of building a team to completely run your business for you, and without you, this is what Gill did. Socrates said that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” In order for you to be successful at building a high-performing company, you must identify and take personality assessments so that you know who you are and what type of strengths and weaknesses you possess. You’ve got to know who you are! We use assessments with clients. It produces a very clear picture of what they are good at and what you should be delegating. These personal insights are invaluable and will help you focus and thrive on your strengths while also teaching you where you need to delegate the parts of the business that are not your strengths or interests.
A lot of owners often think they know everything and as a result, they try to do everything, reducing their progress exponentially because they are not “leveraging” (accomplishing things through other people or processes). So, for the next 30 days, choose something really big, that you don’t want to delegate, and turn it over to someone else to handle. It will either go well, or it might be a disaster, and you will get the practice of helping the other person learn how to pick up the pieces and get things back on track. After all, isn’t good leadership “The Art of Letting Go?”
I hope you win the day!
